Manual Handling Risk Assessment

Overview

A risk assessment conducted on the handling activities within your organisation. This can be either on specific tasks or on general handling activities. Professionally qualified registered members of the Ergonomics Society and Health & Safety Practitioners carry out the assessment on site. The risk assessment covers:

Key Elements

  • loads to be moved
  • persons involved in manual handling activities
  • environment where tasks are being performed
  • tasks being asked of the individual.

Where possible, measurements will be made of the loads, the environment, and persons involved, all of which impact on manual handling capabilities. The report will identify issues on high-risk activities, recommend action of changes in loads, training requirements, rest breaks, or workplace/environmental changes. Practical measures ranked in order of priority for Improvements and in house support pre-post implementation are also provided. Additional services include identifying and specifying alternative tools/systems to minimise or remove handling tasks. An ergonomics approach is used to identify the mismatches between tasks performed and the people performing them.
